About

StoppingPower.Info aims to be the almanac of the shooting sports on the net. While you can dig for firearms data on the net, we hope we can provide information and experience that makes the critical difference in the pursuit of your firearms interest. StoppingPower.Info is for shooters and provides the information you can’t get elsewhere on the net.

shooting-videos_1

Fundamentally, you can find a lot of information on the net about shooting, guns, ballistics, etc. But the question we’re asked all the time is “Yeah, I know how far it’s supposed to shoot, but what does it *do* when it hits?” What does it look like when buckshot is fired into an interior wall? How do different rounds tear up a phonebook? What does a shotgun slug do when it hits it’s target (pretty much whatever it wants). We have various targets in this category and various information on each type of round we’ve shot (e.g. 9mm, .357 Magnum, .308, etc.). Contact us if you have any ideas on this topic.

We are actively trying to build a comprehensive review of each and every firearm ever conceived or created. This section is driven by user ratings and comments, and show the true value of a gun based on public input.

resource-guides_0

Our resource guides provide an easy reference when you’re trying to find information for a specific project. For example, let’s say your local range needs to add in some shooting benches. Maybe you’ll have to buy a portable bench and just carry it out there, or maybe you want plans to build your own setup. Of course you can search for it on your own, but we’ve got a list of just the benches you’ll need and you can spend more time solving your problem, instead of hunting the net. And we’ve got a guide for gunsmithing schools, gun safes…you get the idea.

In a good conversation with a friend of mine (3 tour Vietnam Scout Sniper) we discussed selection of rounds for 12 ga. home defense. His argument was, that over the distance of 20 feet (size of a room) that #4, or even #6 shot, was plenty and would “cut a man in half” (he really meant just getting the job done) without the overpenetration of 00buck. I have seen some videos of penetration of 00buck, but not on #4 or #6 shot – especially as it relates to a home defense situation, and no comparisons. You have posted some video of #4 shot on a cantalope, thank you for that. What I would really like to see, and I think would be very interesting food for thought is a direct comparison of 00, 0000, #4, and #6 at a distance of 15 – 20 feet, looking at penetration through multiple layers of drywall, and damage to targets (melons, water jugs, ballistics gel, etc).

Is this something you can explore and get back to me with?

    Thanks

We’ve sort of done this…I put up several videos of various shotgun rounds at the 5, 10, 15, and 20 yards on a target. We shot 3 rounds of 3 different types of ammo (two different types of 00 buck and one of #1 buck). Honestly that’s a pretty good idea about putting a watermelon behind the wall
