I’m starting to research 3-gun as the “next thing to do” (isn’t everybody at this point?), so I thought I’d post some of the rules here:

Stu Olson has posted detailed pics of installing his Benelli SuperNova Magazine Extension (actually a Nordic Components magazine extension) over at his site.  I haven’t run across many other sites with pictures showing how the magazine extension is put together like this one, so I thought it was worthwhile to note it here.  Here’s an example:

I’ve been spending a lot of time looking at shotgun upgrades lately, and wandered across www.rem870.com today.  The guy running this really has a nice set of pictures for the various additions he’s doing on Remington 870 shotguns.  See some of the following:

honestly though, I’m not sure what I think about the kid wearing glasses at the end.  On one hand, it seems a bit too Terminator for me.  On the other hand, it doesn’t seem tactically sound either — surely the light from the Christmas tree isn’t that bright?

Once again, daily views for StoppingPower.Info videos made a new all-time high.  Daily views for 12/8/10 (as reported by TubeMogul metrics) reached 13,454.  I’m not certain what’s driving all the traffic, other than perhaps school is letting out for the fall semester?

The title of this post is apparently what my wife should have told me a couple of weeks ago, instead of “don’t break down any of the large boxes in the garage.”   Seeing as a I put a new scope on my Ruger 10/22 I wanted something to setup at 25 yards to help in the sighting process, I needed to find a box to drag out to the range.  Lo and behold, when I enter the garage, there was large box that was the perfect size.  After stapling a couple of paper targets to it, I threw it in the  back of the Element and didn’t think anything of it.

Until last night.

When I heard “why does box I was going to use for shipping Christmas presents have holes in it?”

On the other hand, I did learn that UPS will indeed ship a box that has been shot up (it was mostly intact, after all this was only .22 LR) without so much as a question.  Makes you wonder how often they run into this type of shipping situation…

If you have directTV, the Sportsman Channel has a solid three hour block of shooting sports programs on Thursday nights.  Given the lack of anything else on (until the NFL starts Thursday night football this coming week), it’s been the best thing on by far.  In particular I’ve really liked Tactical Arms, which goes over a firearm every week and provides a lot of good info in a short amount of time.

Once again, daily views have topped my old high score (10K) with today’s 11,351 views!  The last high score of 10k was less than a month ago, so I consider this a very early Christmas present.  I guess I must be doing something right. Admittedly that doesn’t add up, but there’s several other video networks I submit to (via the power of TubeMogul), so they aren’t accounted for in the above table.  However, Youtube is by far the major driver of the stats and comments.

I’ve been thinking about starting a Ruger 10/22 project as something to keep me busy during winter.  I haven’t decided between an AR trainer or target varient to modify my 1022.  I’ve been really interested in the Nordic AR22 receiver kit since I’ve seen it written up on DemiGods site, but I hadn’t found much in the way of actual build pictures on it — until now!  Behold, a quality writeup by John Davies on getting the kit setup.

For example, note his comment:

We used a laminated or “peelable” brass shim, which was actually an aircraft part from John’s junk box, left over from his days as an aircraft mechanic. First we loosened the lower barrel bolt and moved the receiver and barrel upwards until it was perfectly centered in the end of the fore arm. Then we measured the gap below the V block – it was 0.035 inches on this gun. After trimming and peeling layers, we installed the brass shim and retightened the barrel bolt. The next time we strip the rifle, we will glue the shim in place with some adhesive so it can’t get lost.

This is information that I haven’t found any where else, and seems really helpful.
